- a little about Western Australia.

Western Australia Coat of Arms

Western Australia is situated in the southern hemisphere, and dominates the western portion of the Australian continent - occupying approximately one-third of the country's total landmass.

To the west are the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, with the Timor Sea in the north and the Southern Ocean in the south.

To the east, the state is bordered by the arid outback country and famous goldfields of the Northern Territory and South Australia.

Getting there:
By air: Perth Airport is a modern facility about 20-30 minutes away from the centre of Perth.

The international and domestic terminals are easily accessible by car, taxi and bus. A taxi will cost approximately A$20-30.

A shuttle service to Fremantle also operates regularly. There are regular flights to Perth from all Australian capital cities.

Broome Airport is also serviced with direct flights from most capital cities.

By train: The Indian Pacific travels from east to west coast, taking 3 nights and 4 days to cover the 4353 km from Sydney to Perth.

By bus: Perth is almost a 34.5 hour trip by bus from Adelaide and close to 3000 km, Broome to Darwin will take about 27 hours to cover 1970 kms.

By car: If you're planning to drive to Perth from Adelaide across the Nullarbor it will take about 28 hours (2685 km). From Darwin to Broome it takes about 19 hours (around 1970 km). From Broome to Perth about 23 hours (2200 kms).

Climate:
Western Australia has one of the most diverse climates in Australia – from the tropical north to the temperate south – which means equally diverse holiday experiences.

There are also two distinct seasonal variations. In the southern half of the State there are four seasons – summer, autumn, winter and spring, while in the north there are just two - the 'wet' and the 'dry'.

- about Perth

Perth is Western Australia's capital city and the major gateway into the state. Fronting the widest stretch of the meandering Swan River, city and river make a stunning contrast, especially when the skies and river are a perfect Perth blue.

In the heart of the city is Kings Park, Perth's pride and joy and within minutes of the city centre are Perth's beaches.

There are nineteen to choose from – some, such as Scarborough Beach are great for surfing, and others, like Cottesloe with its beachside cafes, are ideal for families.
